If you are surrounded by older people, are you intimidated by them? Are you feeling low since you are younger than them?
When I was working for my first job at the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) from 2007-2010, I was not yet confident to talk and to make some suggestions. I was surrounded by business owners and CEOs. They are leaders in their respect organizations. They were knowledgeable, well-experienced and have great wisdom. I thought to myself that they are way above me in terms of professional experience, so I doubted if they will listen to me during meetings.
However, this feeling was gradually transformed. I was eager to learn and show to them that I listen to their advices and be a model to my colleagues. During that experience, being young was not a hindrance in working because I proved to them that I can work regardless of being young. This experience is strengthened by the bible verse from 1 Timothy 4:12. In this verse, Paul reminded Timothy not to be worried of being young and instead be a good example in speech and in action to church believers at that time.
Currently, I am designated as the new dean of our college. This is not new to me since I was designated as the OIC from 2017-2019. However, times are different and the job is more challenging and there are things that need to accomplished. In this biggest challenge in my career, I want to depend on God rather than myself. I want to commit to Him all of my activities and targets. I ask God for guidance and support for all my daily decisions. I know that God will be there for me in the highs and lows in my career. I fully entrust to Him my life.
If I am surrounded by intellectuals in the academe, I will hold my head up high and do things a leader like me can. I will not feel low, but rather I will set a good example in thought, words and action. I will work in silence and let my accomplishments do the noise.
I will glorify God in everything that I do. I will do my very best for the job. I know that God is there for me every step of the way.
