Let the Green be seen: Urban Greening Project in Davao City

In support to the National Greening Program (Executive Order No. 26) of President Benigno S. Aquino III, the School of Applied Economics (SAEc) has initiated the Urban Greening Project in partnership with the Department Of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), - Community Environment and Natural Resources (CENRO) East and Communal Elementary School. This executive order was issued ordering and declaring the implementation of a National Greening Program as a government priority. The program shall plant 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares by 2016.  







SAEc was able to adopt two urban areas to implement this national program. Last September 15, 2012, a tree planting activity was held at the Davao International Airport, Cabantian Road, Buhangin. Sixty-five participants composed of students; faculty and DENR officials participated in the said activity. Two-hundred narra and mahogany trees were planted at the side entrance garden of the airport. During the occasion, a MOA signing was also conducted between DENR and SAEc, this is to formalize the partnership and to ensure the sustainability of the program. 

After the airport tree planting activity, a succeeding event last September 22, 2012 was held at the Communal Elementary School, Buhangin, Davao City. The activity was participated by one hundred seventy participants composed of students, faculty and school officials. Four hundred narra and four hundred ten mahogany trees were planted at the backyard of the school.


The Urban Greening Project of SAEc has garnered a total of two hundred thirty five participants and planted over one thousand two hundred trees and counting. SAEc is committed to the betterment of the society and cooperate to the priority programs of the government on poverty reduction, resource conservation and protection and climate change mitigation and adaption.
