Become like children

Are you ready to humble yourself and become like children?

When I was young, I want to always be with my parents. I do not want to be away with them. I need their guidance because I cannot do it by myself. I was dependent with their love and protection. My parents are my role model. I look up to them. Whatever their instructions are, I will really follow.

As I grew older, I became more independent. I want to do things on my own way. I became deaf from advices from my parents because I think I am right. I made decisions on my own without their guidance and advice. I am like sheep who gone astray and want to escape the shepherd.

Now that I am also a parent, I saw my children grew over the years. When they were little, they were all excited to see me home and always look up to me as their role model. Whatever are my instructions to them, they will really follow. As they become teenagers, I saw the changes in their behavior. I saw myself to them. They also became independent-minded. Sometimes they do not listen. When they listen and obey my commands, I can hear a lot of murmurs and grumbles. Hence, I cannot control their behavior and actions anymore compared when they were little kids.

Jesus loves the little children. This is also how Jesus described children. In Matthew 18:3, Jesus said:

“Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me."

This is how Jesus wants us to become. To accept Him as our Lord and Savior and to follow His teachings, we need to become like children. Children are innocent, dependent,  open, curious, honest and a follower.  Jesus wants us to be transformed like children, who follow His commands and lived in a righteous way.  As God's children, we need to be obedient, loyal, loving, honest, patient and kind. The list goes on.

In summary, we need to embody a Christ-like character in word, thought and deeds. Transform your life with the Lord and become like children to enter His divine kingdom.
